Sadly, in recent times after the revolution the press developed a trend of publishing unverified news and information in order to gain the people’s approval
The sheer lies published on the front page of al-Ahram newspaper are unbelievable. Who is I hope that fair trials will take place, based on evidence, documents, truthful testimonies, and far from politics. These are the real goals of the revolution: justice and equal access to justice this high-profile lying hypocrite who hides behind the label “unnamed” and claims that the Egyptian American Bank was valued at USD 50 billion? By God, American Express itself would barely be valued at such an amount. Dear writer of that news article, do you have no brains? The responsibility of your profession stipulates that you at least think. Go back to the records and find out who sold what to whom. The writer also discusses Khadiga al-Gammal’s (Gamal Mubarak’s wife) intervention to request land along the North Coast for her land-developer father. The writer overlooked the fact that Mahmoud el-Gammal’s North Coast projects date back to when his daughter was still in diapers.
Sadly, in recent times after the revolution the press developed a trend of publishing unverified news and information in order to gain the people’s approval. It would publish one biased perspective or a direct accusation then restructure the same sentence over and over, as though such repetition carried any added value or helped substantiate the main idea. An editor must research and verify information like a prosecutor or a private investigator. A news report represents an investigation, and fact-finding is its foremost element. When accusations are targeted at others, writers must be truthful and must portray all sides of a story.
We al know the difference between corrupt profiteering and making decisions based on existing policies. We should recall the effective and important decisions that were made, whether negative or positive. We should also acknowledge that no one is infallible. Worse than making wrong decisions is not making any decisions at all. False and misleading media articles will scare people from taking action and making decisions. I do not speak of specific individuals but rather ask that you review dates and the sequence of events. In addition, given [former] President' Mubarak’s role in all decision making who would have dared to disagree with the president and faced the subsequent retribution?
Not everyone who built a resort is corrupt; not everyone who built a factory is a thief; notNot everyone who built a resort is corrupt; not everyone who built a factory is a thief; not every party to a contract failed to fulfill his contractual obligations. The deficiency also lies in the laws, their enforcement, and the monitoring system every party to a contract failed to fulfill his contractual obligations. The blame is also that of the system and the existing laws – both the monitoring of and the enforcement. We must verify the facts before publishing them.
O’ writers, you are responsible for lives, citizens’ reputations, and the Egyptian economy. Do not scare away local investment. “O ye who believe! If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly, and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done.” (Quran, 49:6)
We must realize that this is a time when many people are seeking vengeance, justified and unjustified. We ask you to verify information before you stir public opinion, and we ask that we let the judiciary play its part. I hope that fair trials will take place, based on evidence, documents, truthful testimonies, and far from politics. These are the real goals of the revolution: justice and equal access to justice. I’m writing this to keep a clear conscience and to speak logic and the truth.
